A picture light makes a cheap print look like art and turns a gallery wall into the focal point of a room after dark. The new ones are wireless: rechargeable or battery powered, mounted with magnets or adhesive, and controlled by remote. No electrician needed.

1. One wide light for a big piece

The EZVALO 16 in Wireless Picture Light spreads 80 LEDs across 16 in, at 150 lm with CRI above 90, so colors look true. A 4800 mAh battery recharges over USB-C, and the IR remote has four timer settings.

2. True color for prints and posters

The Rechargeable Picture Lights, 2-Pack have CRI 95+ and a 4500 mAh battery for over 15 hours per charge. They mount magnetically without drilling, and the remote sets three color temperatures and dimming. For more brightness, the 300 lm Rechargeable Picture Lights also have CRI 95+, in warm, natural or cool white, with stick-on or screw mounting.

3. A gallery wall, lit as a set

The Battery Picture Lights, 4-Pack give you four lights with eight LEDs each and two remotes for on/off, color temperature, brightness and timers. The Arixinks Picture Lights, 3-Pack offer 3000K, 4500K and 6000K, dimmable from 10 to 100%, with auto-off timers up to 120 minutes. Both run on AA or AAA batteries (not included).

4. Color for a gaming or music wall

The EZVALO RGB Picture Lights have 3 whites and 12 RGB colors plus two dynamic modes, dimmable with timers, rechargeable and magnetic. The Magnetic RGB Puck Lights do the same in a round puck shape and mount with magnets, adhesive or screws: good for shelves and figure displays.

How to light art well

  • Use warm white for paintings and prints, and save RGB for posters and shelves.
  • Mount the light so it covers about two-thirds of the frame width or more.
  • Set a timer so the lights switch off on their own and the battery lasts longer.
